Montrusco Bolton Investments
"Montrusco Bolton aims to identify best-in-class growth stocks while following a very clearly defined sell discipline."
- Daniel Solomon, Chief Investment Officer, NEI Investments
Montrusco Bolton Investments Inc. (MBII) is one of Canada's oldest independent investment management firms, with origins going back to 1946. With offices in Montreal and Toronto, MBII offers portfolio management services to private clients and institutional clients including pension funds, foundations, religious communities, insurance companies and investment funds. MBII is a private company held by the firm's key employees and two strategic partners, Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
MBII's investment philosophy is to invest in and hold long term, quality growth-oriented companies. Portfolios are constructed with a bottom-up perspective while sectors are a consideration from a risk perspective but not a main driver in portfolio construction.
MBII believes in managing focused and well diversified portfolios. In order to achieve this objective, a rigorous and well-defined investment process which consists of four steps is applied. Fundamental research is the cornerstone of MBII's investment philosophy and process.
Members of the research team attempt to identify high quality companies with sound balance sheets, strong operational metrics and competent management teams. Companies that meet these strict criteria are assessed using various valuation metrics in order to determine their inherent value. The outcome of this exercise is to determine both a target price to the upside as well as the potential downside to the share price based on a worst-case scenario. Risk-adjusted returns are then optimized by selecting securities that exhibit the most attractive risk/return profiles in the final construction of their portfolios.
